The task

Accent Auto sells parts across 18 branches in 8 cities, mostly to trade. The old site ran on Joomla and went down several times a month. Support could not close incidents quickly.

A redesign had already been started by another studio. Ninety per cent of it had to be reviewed and rebuilt. The job grew into a full one: hold the old site up through the transition, and build the new platform beside it.

What we built

Auto parts are not ordinary e-commerce. There is no single part numbering system, every manufacturer marks its own, and the buyer is usually after a compatible part rather than a named one. We designed a catalogue of eight million items, fully refreshed daily, with our own search on top — the off-the-shelf engines could not be tuned the way the client needed.

Orders go into 1C. Managers handle more than eight kinds of request. Delivery is quoted to the address or the pickup point from where the customer is standing, to five minutes. External parts catalogues supply cross-references and the interactive vehicle diagrams.

Result

Nine months to release, customers and orders migrated off the old site, the platform hardened against scrapers and the server against attack.

Orders started at once: 250 a day on average, 15,000 visits and more than 1,000 unique customers daily. B2B conversion passed 50%, B2C passed 6%.
